First Steps...

So today was my first step in becoming more engaged with the green space in our community. I went and met with Steve Coleman at Parks and People. He had alot of insights, advice and support to share about parks in our neighborhood in particular the one at 11th and Monroe.

Most importantly he said we need to meet IN the park if we are going to do anything about improving the park. So obvious and yet I had been thinking to meet at CH Coffee to avoid the uncomfortable feeling of being in the park. But no more. Tomorrow is CH Day and what better day then this one to meet in the park for the first time.

How about 4pm, Saturday October 6, 2007 - all those interested in the Monroe and 11th park meet under the community bulletin board and take a walk through the park and talk a bit?

Steve has offered to come out and talk with us about resources available and strategies for improving the space for everyone. I think once we decide what we want to do we should ask him to come out. He has some interesting stories to tell about the history of the park and how it is right by the old Trolley Turnaround for the streetcar that ran up 14th Street. There is also news on other green space in our community in particular the space in the empty lot between 11/Sherman and Kenyon/Park. Turns out it is in probate and the city could end up owning it for public park use.
